Colonic Hydrotherapy is also sometimes known as Colonic Irrigation or as a Colon Cleanse and is a very safe and effective treatment for cleansing the large intestine of waste materials by the gentle flushing with warm water. It is better than an enema because it can reach the whole of the colon and not just the end of the colon as it meets the rectum.
Beckenham Therapy Rooms has a dedicated and fully equipped treatment room from which to offer Colonic Hydrotherapy. The room uses a closed system with a specialist machine that filters the water and regulates the pressure and temperature. All of the other equipment used is single use for hygiene purposes.
What is it good for?
Colonic Hydrotherapy is an effective treatment for a number of health problems and is great for those embarking on a detox or weight loss program. The process of Colonic Hydrotherapy may tone and hydrate the colon and correct the imbalance of the intestinal flora in the gut. We commonly see patients with:
- Arthritis
- Asthma
- Bad breath
- Bloating
- Candida
- Constipation
- Diarrhoea
- Fatigue
- Fibromyalgia
- Gas
- Haemorrhoids
- Headaches
- IBS
- Indigestion
- Lethargy
- MS
- Parasites
- Skin problems: eczema, psoriasis, acne, etc.
What will happen?
In the days leading up to your appointment we suggest having light meals and drinking plenty of water. It is not necessary to fast before having a Colon Hydrotherapy Treatment.
At your appointment, your therapist will take a comprehensive medical history and assess whether the treatment is appropriate for your individual health needs. Once this has been done and no contraindications have been identified then the treatment can begin.
The treatment itself involves introducing a speculum to open the anal sphincter. An inlet and outlet tube is then attached to the outside of the speculum so that the system is open, with water going in and water and waste going out.
Approximately 60 litres of filtered water is used in one treatment but with only small amounts allowed to enter the colon at any one time. This acts to dilate the colon and stimulate it to empty. The water pressure is carefully controlled and is in fact lower than is normally generated during a bowel movement.
Whilst lying on your left side, water is allowed into your colon. After about 10 minutes your colonic hydrotherapist will ask you to turn onto your back. Using gentle massage techniques on the abdomen the colonic hydrotherapist will work around the whole colon to assist the elimination of waste and gas pockets.
The colonic treatment itself takes about 40 minutes.
Is it safe?
You will be assessed for any contraindications to treatment at your first consultation but, if there aren't any, then the treatment is extremely safe.
You will NOT be able to have a colonic if you are pregnant or if you suffer from any of the following conditions:
- Abdominal Hernia

Treatment Packages
At Beckenham Therapy Rooms we offer a variety of treatment packages to meet the specific needs of our clients.
A Single Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment will make a difference to your well-being, however, some clients may find a course of 2 or 3 treatments more beneficial.
At Beckenham Therapy Rooms we offer an Organic Coffee Enema. The coffee stimulates the liver to produce more bile which further helps to cleanse the colon and detoxify the liver. This works great with our Liver Detox Capsules if you are on a detox plan. We also offer a Probiotic Enema which will replenish the gut with billions of healthy friendly bacteria.
We also suggest that during a course of treatment our Healthy Bowel Function Blend supplements are taken to further aid cleansing and elimination, as well as Probiotic Capsules to repopulate the bowel with good bacteria. Just ask at your appointment for the recommended supplements available.
Your Colon Hydrotherapist will discuss your options and may recommend a course of treatments or a treatment package if they feel you will benefit from this. Please see our Colonic Hydrotherapy Packages below:
